Escaped Markup #3

The final part of the trilogy: The Return of the Norm .

Pretty nice recap of the main reasons not to bung this stuff in feeds, but then alternatives to escaped markup are presented:

  1. Stick to plain text, don't even try to put any markup in there.
  2. Allow markup and insist that it be well-formed.
    • attach using mime
    • leave on net and link
    • base64 encode

Escaped Markup: What To Do Instead

btw, I agree wholeheartedly with Norm's arguments on this, and in my own apps think in terms of 1. most of the time, though the door is always open to 2. as an XML API is always at hand.
