Javascript hogs processor?

I just noticed a considerable slowdown of other apps when I had a browser window open with a running (graphic) script on it. Call me naive, but surely IE (on Win2k) can't just grab what processor time it wants, can it?

Hang on, wasn't there an issue with WinNT and screensavers…
