Tim Bray on AutoLink Again, he's actually gone and tried the thing and reported back. Respect. He still thinks it evil/stupid, but either way I suspect he's right in believing that it's doomed.
It's odd having conclusions that are in direct opposition to those of someone with whom you usually find yourself agreeing. I certainly agree with Tim in his suggestions - "Make the links look different. Be more up-front…". But I reckon the idea of constraining what people can do with your words/pictures/links is a non-starter. I sampled and revised Tim's words two sentences ago. Remix isn't evil per se.
While I'm in a good mood I'll also note a point of agreement
between myself and someone I find myself disagreeing with by
default, a certain Mr. D.Winer, who
says:
"…having a beard, a full one, is a rational choice".
True.
(For male coders 40+, probably not too rational for teenage
female supermodels, though there have been
stranger
fashions…).
