Phil's gripe with the Simple List Extensions was that you had to place an actual element as a child of cf:sort, see http://weblog.philringnalda.com/2005/06/24/ms-embraces-rss . This meant that if you saw an RSS element when parsing it's meaning depended on what scope you found it.

I don't see any such extensions in SSE. Perhaps he is mistaking the 'link' and 'title' attributes of the sx:related element in the spec for the RSS elements.
