Semantic Web, the business, podcast@en

Paul Miller really is on a roll, this time a beaut for VCs & entrepreneurs:

In our latest Talking with Talis podcast, I talk with Tom Ilube. Formerly CIO at pioneering Internet bank Egg [pretty much a household name in the uk], Tom is now CEO of UK-based Semantic Web startup Garlik.

It starts with some description of what Garlik provides, which is essentially identity management, find what all those un/official docs have to say about you (currently uk only) " your identity is an asset".

But then it moves on to some hype-free discussion, quite a different feel to Paul's recent 'casts, less visionary/tech, more business nitty-gritty. I have to comment on the only tech bit, about them having to build a big triplestore from scratch - they are thin on the ground, but there are several such systems in the pipeline (I guess quite a few people noticed the lack at the same time as Garlik). e.g. in the open source world, I believe Mulgara is aiming Very Big ( anyone got figures for current/planned?).

It's a must for analyst/VCs etc, but will make a very reassuring listen for any developers working in the field. I challenge you not to come away with $$ signs in your eyes thinking hmm, now what kind of startup should I build...
