I called my take on it
Get Your Data
Out!
Thing is, recently I've found myself asking
wtf?
an awful lot around some of the tech in nearby space to the
DataPortability thing. For
example this last week I was mulling over one the latest
OAuth-related
specs
(and I don't mean Henry's, before you start bengee :-) and
before I knew it was getting tangled in political stuff - my own
fault, I should be able to articulate better by now.
But anyhow, data portability couldn't be any closer to the stuff semweb folks have been working on for the last umpteen years, basically data=RDF and portability=HTTP. We had the t-shirt ages ago. But even now there are compelling stories on historically sticky things like formats (just map the stuff, GRDDL ideally), when linked data as a notion has serious traction and the business case of the data web is riding high, it's a bit frustrating to see how little progress has been made in getting bits like single sign-on kinds of authentication and "human-centric identity" sorted. Little bitty things, but useful things that are in big demand.
So anyway, I reckon it's probably time to stop worrying about wtf? and just going for a wtf! or even wtf ftw!
I'm not gonna comment on the shelf life of assertions, but it's
often worthwhile making them, in one form or another.
