Triplestores! Virtuosity! Marsupials! @en

Wow, where did this appear from? Spotted via Jon Udell (who has a podcast interview with Kingsley Idehen, the CEO of the company behind this) -

Virtuoso provides:

  • Object-Relational DBMS Engine (ORDBMS like PostgreSQL and DBMS engine like MySQL)

  • XML Data Management (with support for XQuery, XPath, XSLT, and XML Schema)

  • RDF Triple Store (or Database) that supports SPARQL (Query Language, Transport Protocol, and XML Results Serialization format)

  • Service Oriented Architecture (it combines a BEPL Engine with an ESB)

  • Web Application Server (supports HTTP/WebDAV)

  • NNTP compliant Discussion Server

All the usual platforms, just became Open Source (GPL2).

In other triplestore news, the Tucana/Northrup Grumman logjam seems to have finally broken, with the open source side (formerly known as Kowari) forking off as a new project called Mulgara. Excellent news, I found Kowari a treat to use (which is why it features in the RSS/Atom book). David Wood has the latest.
